Elemica Connects Lanxess with Hoyer

Successful project highlights the benefits of “Connect Once – Connect To All” in the logistics sector

Leverkusen – Lanxess Deutschland GmbH, one of the world's major chemical companies, is now electronically linked with the logistics company Hoyer GmbH, a leading European provider of innovative solutions in bulk logistics to the global chemical industry, via the B2B solutions provider Elemica. Founded by 22 companies from the chemical industry including Lanxess, Elemica has more than 3,000 links across industry types that include petrochemicals, energy, fibers, plastics, gases, consumer goods, automotive, food, paper and packaging, mining, agriculture and life sciences, rubber, textile, electrical, construction and pharmaceuticals. Elemica is a network based on Internet connections, which enables a high degree of automation in data exchange for order to invoice processing, which includes planning and logistics.

The advantages of Elemica, particularly in the case of logistics processes, lie in its fully automated electronic transfer of transport information, a process that is totally independent of the business hours of the logistics partners in question. For this connection, the parties utilize ChemXML standards (www.cidx.org) and also the tracking and tracing modules available in Elemica.

When Lanxess was looking for a supplier for electronic and automated data exchange with its logistics partners, Elemica was the first choice due to the benefits it was able to offer. Thanks to the short and efficient information paths provided by Elemica, Lanxess is able to pursue its objective of delivering long-term improvements in the supply chain processes.

With its many years of experience as an IT user and technology leader in logistics, Lanxess’ logistics service provider Hoyer was able to meet all the requirements needed for being the first partner-of-choice for this project, and once more confirmed Elemica’s suitability for the demands of the logistics sector. Now, transport assignments are being transmitted from Lanxess to Hoyer via this connection, with confirmations subsequently being sent by Hoyer back to the Lanxess. This is achieved by reporting the relevant transport status and the corresponding loading and unloading confirmations. All information is generated automatically from the order processing system and can also be called up via the Internet at any time by connected companies on the Elemica platform.

According to Fred van der Spil, Director of Hoyer Information Services, the partnership with Elemica is considered a major step in enabling cost reductions and service performance improvements in transport order entry and - execution processes, and ultimately Hoyer’s chemical customers’ order fulfillment processes. It will enhance and accelerate Hoyer’s strategy of digitizing cross-company business processes with our customers and business partners in the chemical industry.
