New Elemica system makes ordering and tracking easier

BP’s Acetyls and Aromatics group has developed and launched a new order-taking/tracking system aimed at smaller-sized buyers of its chemicals. With the new Elemica system, customers can:

• order chemicals (or amend an existing order) without typing entries twice
• find out the status of a delivery, e.g. see when goods are dispatched, and
• download documentation of an order.

The new system makes it easier for more companies to move to electronic ordering. And electronic ordering, as opposed to ordering by telephone, or fax, offers advantages of 24/7 availability, real-time information and error-free transcription of messages.

“This is not just another online ordering system,” says Nelly Chevalier, A&A Order-to-Cash Development Manager. “The new Elemica system is a big step toward full automation of purchasing and full integration of buyers’ and sellers’ computing systems.

Acetyls and Aromatics’ ordering system combines two software offerings from Elemica: Elemica Buyer Direct (EBD) and Elemica’s logistics tracking package, TransLink/TransDoc. By replacing a system known as Chemicals Choice, the move to this new system is part of BP’s efforts to use industry standard software and to move away from bespoke solutions.

BP is a founder member of Elemica and has for some time utilised Elemica’s more-integrated systems. Elemica, with dedicated staff in Europe, North America and Asia, will handle operations and maintenance of the new system. “We and our customers,” says Nelly Chevalier, “get a common, standardised system, so we all can leave most updating and upgrading to Elemica.”
