Mitsubishi Chemicals makes first fully-automated purchase through ELEMICA network
Seamless System-to-System trading now possible with 1000s of companies
Singapore, September 4th 2006 – Mitsubishi Chemicals Corporation (MCC) is now connected to the Elemica network that provides fully-automated, system-to-system buying and selling of chemical products with a variety of partners.
Through the Elemica Network, purchase orders are sent from MCC’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to the ERP system at Ciba Specialty Chemicals. Ciba responds electronically to the PO, providing MCC immediate feedback on the order status. The two ERP systems are now integrated enabling real-time processing of Purchase and Sales Orders. The process is simplified & streamlined through the application of ELEMICA technology.
Traditionally, most tasks in a purchase are handled by people using telephone, telefax and email, not directly by computers. By connecting just once to ELEMICA, MCC’s ERP system will now be able to transact with all the other companies connected to ELEMICA’s hub, which include not only Ciba, but also more than 1350 other chemical companies and logistics providers worldwide. This is considerably cheaper and quicker than trying to connect to those companies one by one.
“Mitsubishi Chemicals is the first company in Japan to make fully integrated ERP to ERP transactions through our network,” said ELEMICA’s Vice President for Asia, Marianne Rehn and continues “It has been a smooth and very successful implementation. We welcome more fully integrated ERP to ERP connections in Japan while we continue to grow our Japanese customer base on our network which include 8 locally represented sellers, buyers and distributors”
“This project has allowed MCC to leverage our ERP system & B2B investment & expertise to enhance our business capabilities compared to conventional transaction methods” says MCC’s Deputy Manager of IS, Norihiro Itano and continues “ELEMICA offers two major cost benefits: 1. Business Process Automation: by transferring repetitive work to computers, errors are reduced and clerical staff is freed for higher-value work. 2. Business Process standardization: business processes are streamlined and better organized.”
“This transaction further expands our use of Elemica for our operations in Asia,” says Head of B2B Connectivity, Ryuichiro Shinoda of Ciba Specialty Chemicals. “We already use Elemica in our European and North America operations with numerous other companies for the shared benefit of process efficiencies through standardization and automation. This implementation will serve to further enhance the value we derive from using Elemica.”
